I was going to give up on it but am glad I finished it, although its nowhere near as good as Jackie's much earlier work, eg Lucky. It's mostly a sex romp with a bit of intrigue thrown in for good measure, which is Jackie's trademark, but this one fails to hit the I thought I'd read this after seeing a 5 star review in my local paper by a usually trusted critic.
It's mostly a sex romp with a bit of intrigue thrown in for good measure, which is Jackie's trademark, but this one fails to hit the spot, no pun intended! Her earlier works were really good, fast paced and with an air of mystery about them. How times change; and I realise now why I stopped reading her books years ago.
I think this would be okay for a holiday read but that's about all. Feb 04, Theresa Stevens rated it really liked it Shelves: Today is the day I have to return this book back to the library I have read Jackie Collins before And after settling into the book for a good solid 'feet up armchair read' I started to enjoy and really get into the intricacies of the plot.
Alek, Bianc Today is the day I have to return this book back to the library Alek, Bianca parted maybe just as well as 'miss independent - Xuan, seemed a better fit for him! And then finally the quiet, smoldering hero Flynn and Mrs soft Sierra - both free from their inner demons The book was gripping, the descriptive prose had all the elements of desert island, high seas drama, raunchy sex and expensive high roller antics.
When I finished reading the last page I was satisfied. However, on a proof-reading note Miss Collins should get a percentage discount off printing as I found a few errors But still a very good read! I must say she had some very sterotypical characters: The mixing of 6 couples on a luxury yacht, some with interesting connections both current and in the past makes for an interesting story--had to keep listening to see what happened next!!
I was a bit excited initially that Jackie Collins was narrating until I learned there were multiple narrators on this story, which caused a little disconnect of the characters as the narrators portrayed some of the same characters which made it difficult to follow which character was being referred to.
Definitely worth a listen. Mar 10, Samantha March rated it it was amazing. Oh, Jackie Collins is a naughty lady. What a juicy tale! You never know what one of them is thinking or what the next act I received a copy of The Power Trip by Jackie Collins in exchange for an honest review.
You never know what one of them is thinking or what the next action is going to be. This is a seriously big book, but it took me less than two days to read.
Jun 06, Heidi rated it liked it. I had not read a Jackie Collins book in 20 years and I really enjoyed this book. It's a raunchy and fun story. The great thing about many of Ms. Collins stories is that many of her characters resemble real life celebrities.
What fun. There is nothing deep and meaningful in this book, but it was a lot of fun to read and I did like some of the characters and dislike others. Don't take this review too seriously because I'm clearly not the target audience. Most of the characters are quite child-like and I'm not really sure who this supposed to appeal to. One good point is that the ending hints at a decent story to come and I imagine the full book is better than this prequel.
Doesn't mean i'ma read it doe. It got five stars the first time around and it's getting five stars this time too. Jackie Collins never disappoints.
A most enjoyable buddy read with fellow JC fan Brooklyn: When Russian billionaire Aleksandr Kasianenko plans an elaborate birthday celebration for his supermodel mistress, Bianca, no detail is overlooked. Among the party are UK celebrity footballer Taye Sherwin and his interior designer wife, Ashley; Latin music When Russian billionaire Aleksandr Kasianenko plans an elaborate birthday celebration for his supermodel mistress, Bianca, no detail is overlooked.
Among the party are UK celebrity footballer Taye Sherwin and his interior designer wife, Ashley; Latin music superstar Luca Perez and his haughty English boyfriend, Jeromy; devious US Senator Hammond Patterson and his unhappily married wife, Sierra; world-renowned journalist Flynn Hudson and his humanitarian-minded friend, Xuan; and well-aged movie star Cliff Baxter, a perpetual bachelor and regular Sexiest Man Alive alum, with his spirited younger girlfriend, Lori.
Meanwhile for Aleksander, an old enemy is plotting his revenge for past wrongs with the help of a Mexican daredevil and his wily band of pirates. In true Jackie Collins style, this luxurious birthday cruise will soon become the backdrop for an adventure of secrets, lies, sexual exploits, and backstabbing deviancy on the high seas. If any author can be credited with dominating a genre, Jackie Collins certainly fits the bill.
Her books have gone full circle and beyond, often being used to describe their genre rather than the other way around. There are possibly more characters to dislike than there are to like amid The Power Trip, and the unlikable ones are extreme in their villainy. I did, however, find myself connecting strongly to the characters whom quickly became my favorites — determined Sierra and intrepid Flynn — as well as being pleasantly surprised by my growing affection for others — most notably cheeky Cliff and his adventurous girlfriend, Lori.
Rumor has it that the celebrity guests were reimagined by Collins based on real-life stars, which adds a certain amount of gossipy intrigue to the book.
The story Collins has dreamed up takes its time unraveling, luxuriating at the beginning before zipping through an exciting final act. The pace she keeps is complimentary to the story and shows her experience as a storyteller.
As expected, The Power Trip pushes boundaries in a way that will either turn readers off or leave them wanting more. Jackie Collins has created a quintessential page-turning adventure of sex, money, and murder that feels like taking a trip away from the winter climbs and into the absolute glamour of summertime. I received a copy of the book for the purpose of review.
Nov 09, Gina rated it it was ok. I loved Jackie Collins when I was younger. Gino and Lucky Santangelo are two of my favorite characters ever, and her early books were tightly written and very engaging. The quality of her work slipped a LOT over time, and yet I kept punishing myself by picking them up because I was so hoping she might be able to get her mojo back.
This book is another example of how she just never did. So many problems with this book: It reminded me of the online roleplaying fan fiction I used to write with a I loved Jackie Collins when I was younger.
It reminded me of the online roleplaying fan fiction I used to write with a bunch of friends which, admittedly, was lousy A few paragraphs in one character's POV, then a few more in another character's POV, and constant redundancies in what's being described as each character discusses the same events from their own perspective. The women all have enormous breasts.
The men all have huge packages. The black characters all have gleaming black skin. Did Collins ever actually spend any time around real people to hear the way they talk?
Movie star. Cliff Baxter. Confirmed bachelor. People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. She wasn't going to let him get away with his constant threats. He was threatening her again. He kept threatening her. Seriously the most inept band of pirates ever. So much ridiculous sex that isn't even sexy. If you're going to write smut, at least give it some description and not just "A few moments later an amazing orgasm occurred.
She spends half the book working toward a payoff between two of the characters that never actually comes to fruition. Is there a sequel that explains that God, I hope not? Despite all this, 2 stars instead of 1 because I have such fond memories of Collins' earlier works. Which is a stupid reason, I know, but there it is. I love Jackie Collins I really do. She has this amazing ability to make every sentence feel juicy and kinds of a playful type of sexy, making me hang from her book pages.
Never vulgar, never boring, never mediocre. This book is about a group of people that went on a vacation together in the fabulous boat of a Russian billionaire. The group included: As if all the above characters are not enough there is also a murder. Who died? Who shot the gun?
Jealousy, love, fear, adventure and glamour once again done in the unique fashion that only Jackie Collins can achieve. I loved it. I had been patiently waiting to read this series because I prefer to read books when a series is completed. Well, read half and I was a tad bored. Then all of a sudden I remembered how I used to love Jackie Collins books. Same with Jacqueline Susan and Judith Krantz. I had to read a book like that I decided.
So looking through my library, I picked this book. Lots of talk about sex. Most are beautiful some are nasty all compact in a story with some action at the end. The reviews were not very positive but I decided to give it a go and it was just what I Needed. No horrible dead bodies and sad families of victims of serial killers. No constantly nagging of teenagers with too many emotions but just a simple easy to read no need for using your brains book.
Well finished it this morning. I know I would go even more crazy if I would read a lot of those books but sometimes I need something light and this was the perfect recipe. After Jackie's last couple of duds, I thought I was done because she had lost her smutty magic. Instead of completely giving up, I decided to just get this one from the library. Happily, this one had the old school Jackie flare. Like all of Jackie's books you have the spoiled Hollywood types based on real stars, this time Taye and Ashley the UK footballer and designer wife Cliff the Oscar winning, will never get married aging star Luca the latin gay heartthrob with his snooty q 3.
Like all of Jackie's books you have the spoiled Hollywood types based on real stars, this time Taye and Ashley the UK footballer and designer wife Cliff the Oscar winning, will never get married aging star Luca the latin gay heartthrob with his snooty queen boyfriend and Bianca the black supermodel full of entitlement all on a fabulous yacht Bianca's boyfriend Russian billionaire Alexandr has chartered.
Add the rival mafia's family who sets out to pirate the yacht for revenge. I hated the characters, but in typical Jackie fashion I kept turning the pages to see how they all got their due.

It is good, it is easy to read but it lacks something of the Collins I love so much. Without doubt though she remains an exceptional writer and I love her work but after the promise on the first page, I was disappointed that the story lacked.
I would still recommend it, but it just lacks some of the ingredients of previous novels that make me like her so much. Still, maybe if these authors of so ca i love Jackie Collins, she could teach the author of 50 Shades a lot but this book is not her best. Still, maybe if these authors of so called 'mummy porn' read her they would see the difference in the rap they churn out and the ability to have sex and also be a page turner.
Jackie Collins is an A list author. Oct 26, Birgit rated it liked it. Firstly I have to say thank goodness this was not another Lucky Santangelo story, I think she has been done to death and I'm well and truly over her. It was good to read a stand alone with a whole bunch of different characters, the usual few self obsessed narcissistic bunch and the few heroes here and there, all extremely beautiful and ruggedly handsome of course. It wasn't as raunchy as some of her previous books, quite tame really.
All in all a good easy read with a good epilogue where she gi Firstly I have to say thank goodness this was not another Lucky Santangelo story, I think she has been done to death and I'm well and truly over her. All in all a good easy read with a good epilogue where she gives each character a pretty good if not predictable ending. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

If an idea cannot be expressed without the use of a multitude of curse words, perhaps the idea should be rethought. And too - do all the characters have to be having sex all the time?
With pretty much identical descriptions? Please let the last few c. Feb 23, Alona Perlin rated it it was amazing. Jackie Collins does it again. She introduced many interesting characters in this book. This was not like her regular people that live in Beverly Hills. This cast had other interesting people in it and the story had a very exciting twist to it!
I really enjoyed it. I hope she continues to write books about the rich and famous more and morme! May 28, Marie rated it really liked it.
I can't help it. I love me some trashy Jackie Collins every so often. Sometimes there is nothing more pleasurable than getting lost in her mindless, gossipy, sex over the top, stories.
She makes me laugh out loud at some of her ridiculous characters and scenarios. Once in a while, it is exactly the escape I need. Always a kick to follow the flawed lives of the uber rich and famous. Love it! Jun 08, Donna rated it really liked it. Contrary to some of the negative reviews I just read, I thought this was a great book.
Fans of Jackie Collins will not be disappointed, and this book is sure to entertain any true fiction lover - love, lust, betrayal, murder, and Hollywood. Loved the diversity of the characters as well. I read it in two days! Aug 09, Brooklyn Tayla rated it it was amazing Shelves: My full review can be found here, https: This was a second read for me, and I enjoyed it every bit as much as the first read. I found the characters to be so fabulously entertaining,I often feel as if re reading JC is like greeting an old friend.

Fabulous Book!! Jackie never ever disappoints!! Bring on the next book!! The amazing characters, the plot full of surprises, suspense, sex, teasing and suspense. A brilliant book.

It was an awesome read considering the fact that my husband and I own a vacation home in Cabo San Lucas. Read the book in a few nights. Getting ready to get a few more Jackie Collins books to read while in Cabo. Leave this field empty. There have been many imitators, but only Jackie Collins can tell you what really goes on in the fastest lane of all.
