Some water will be left in the boiler after brewing. Before First Use Remove all labels and packaging. Hand wash all parts with warm water. Rinse all parts thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
Make pots of coffee to season the pot. Follow to use instructions below for each cycle.
To Use Fill the lower chamber with cold water just below the valve. Insert the funnel and fill it with ground espresso do not tamp.
Remove any coffee grounds on the edge of the funnel Tightly screw the upper part of the pot on to the base. Avoid using the handle for leverage.
Select burner size to fit bottom of pot. For gas stovetop, make sure the flame is not larger than bottom of pot.
The flame should not come around the sides of the pot. Place pot on the stovetop until the water boils and coffee begins to come out of the center post.
There will be a gurgling sound during this process. When the top of the pot is full of coffee, remove from stove.
Fill the filterbasket with coffee. The grind should be fine, but not powdery, about the same as for a fine filter drip. Do not pack the coffee or tamp it down.
As the coffee becomes wet, it will expand so it effectively tamps itself Some units come with an extra filterdisc. Drop the filterbasket into the bottom, assemble the top, put the coffee maker on a low to medium heat Brewing should take 5 minutes.
If it takes longer, try raising the heat a bit next time. Brewing has completed when all the water has been percolated into the top. Note: If you find the coffee is not brewing correctly, check first to see if steam is escaping from the area where the top and bottom are screwed together. If the connection here is not tight - if steam can escape out the side - the pot will not work.
Try to screw the parts together more tightly next time. I have found the easiest way to do this is to hug the pot close to your chest and twist the top and bottom together as tightly as you can.
